Cracked Gossamer Veils

Veils of gossamer thin and
Layers of air and cloudburst
Embrace us.
Mists of rain and sunset’s brilliance
That fade as the world turns off
Its lights to blankets of slate
And inky sea. In the calm,
Streaks of electric white strife
The air and sea below in awesome
Magnificence. I watch, wait.
Hold my breath and wait a moment more
For the strike that seemed to never come.
It struck without warning, cracking
The night sky jagged white and the
Ocean silvery black. The current
Surged about us, held us for a moment
Then it was gone and we were left
Upon the beach, alone, and in the dark.
